Jamie Lockard, VP and Publisher

(Nashville, Tenn.) April 21, 2021—HarperCollins Focus today announced a new leader for the HarperCollins Leadership imprint. On May 17, 2021 Jamie Lockard will become vice president and publisher for the imprint, replacing Jeff James who will be transitioning out of the role to explore startup business opportunities and finish his Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership. Lockard will be responsible for the print and digital content publishing program, including continued development of the HarperCollins Leadership Essentials eCourses, and other future formats.

Lockard comes to HarperCollins Leadership after three years as vice president of marketing for Nelson Books, a non-fiction imprint of Thomas Nelson. During her tenure, she worked on New York Times bestselling titles such as Grateful American by Gary Sinise, Dream Big by Bob Goff, Fierce, Free and Full of Fire by Jen Hatmaker, and championed renowned and iconic authors like John Eldredge, David Ramsey, Trent Shelton, Randy Travis, Christine Caine and Michelle Williams. Lockard has held leadership positions in global corporations such as Hallmark Cards, Inc., Jockey International, Whirlpool Corporation, and Lee Apparel Company winning multiple awards for integrated marketing campaigns and media plans.

Don Jacobson, SVP, group publisher for HarperCollins Focus said, “Jamie is a collaborative leader of businesses, people, and ideas, and over her career she has delivered profitable growth amid difficult market conditions for well-known consumer brands. She is one of those rare executives who is not only both a strategic and conceptual thinker, but who also excels at execution. Jamie is exactly who HCL needs to lead it into the future, and I’m delighted to welcome her as publisher.”

In 2018, HarperCollins Leadership was launched to provide leaders a way to share their insights with other business professionals to develop skills and gain from collective wisdom. The imprint has seen multiple titles become bestsellers, including: Shut Up and Listen by Tilman Fertitta Undaunted by Kara Goldin, Stories that Stick by Kindra Hall, Get Out of Your Own Way by Dave Hollis, and Building a StoryBrand by Donald Miller. It also represents a broad catalog of classic business and professional development books under the AMACOM sub-imprint such as The First-Time Manager by Loren B. Belker, Jim McCormick, and Gary Topchik, 2600 Phrases series by Paul Falcone, and Just Listen by Mark Goulston.  HarperCollins Leadership is also home to New York Times bestselling author John C. Maxwell, who has written more than 80 titles and sold more than 30 million books on leadership development.

“I’m so excited to lead HarperCollins Leadership into its next chapter,” said Lockard. “Taking the imprint’s strong foundations and guiding a stellar team to continue to differentiate HCL’s position as an imprint that delivers transformative messages is an amazing opportunity.  We have a powerful author family and I look forward to continuing these great relationships and discovering new voices that resonate with the broadest audiences possible.”

“It has been an exciting three years building HCL into one of the most innovative and largest publishers in the business and leadership category,” said Jeff James. “Many exciting, diverse authors have responded to our unique value proposition, and I am so thrilled that Jamie will be taking the reigns to grow HCL to the next level.”
