Alison Gervais: I’ve been reading CARAVAL by Stephanie Garber and THE LOST GIRL OF ASTOR STREET by fellow Blink author Stephanie Morril. J Along with various college textbooks as well.
Ashley Royer: I recently read Everything I Never Told You. It was a very chilling and unique book. For school, I had to read Chronicle of a Death Foretold. It was very mysterious and suspenseful!
Evangeline Denmark: Lots of YA! I did a little escape reading with Operation Prom Date by Cindi Madsen, and now I’m devouring The Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo.
Heather Maclean: I just finished “The Lost Girl of Astor Street” which I loved!
Jonathan Friesen: Falling through the Cracks. It covers the plight of children caught in poverty, disease, war and neglect. Powerful and heartbreaking.
McCall Hoyle: I have several friends with books debuting this year. I love reading advance copies of their books. Some of my favorites are: Christina June’s It Started with Goodbye, JC Davis’s Cheesus Was Here, and Alexandra Ott’s Rules for Thieves. And there are so many more.
Stephanie Morrill: The books I finished most recently are Harry Potter and The Cursed Child, which I really enjoyed. And The Grift of the Magi by Ally Carter, which is a Heist Society novella. I’ve been missing that series, and I was so excited to get more of Katarina’s story.
What’s your favorite dessert?
Alison Gervais: My favorite dessert would have to be cheesecake, and I mean any kind of cheesecake. I seriously love cheesecake.
Ashley Royer: I have always loved brownie sundaes. I don’t eat dairy anymore, so I’m still on the search for a good dairy free brownie sundae!
Evangeline Denmark: Brownies or anything with peanut butter.
Heather Maclean: I love all dessert. It’s probably easier to ask what is my least favorite dessert. I love anything chocolate, creamy, fruity, flakey, filled, fried, sprinkled, powdered, candy coated…
McCall Hoyle: Butterfinger Blizzards may not be the classiest dessert on the face of the planet, but they’re definitely my favorite. Nothing says spring in the South like a trip to Dairy Queen with the windows down, the radio turned up, and a Blizzard with one of those long red plastic spoons.
Stephanie Morrill: Anything that involves a combination of chocolate and peanut butter is a winner with me!
Going to the beach? Or going camping?
Alison Gervais: This is such a tough question! I grew up going to the beach and going camping, and I love both! But Colorado has such gorgeous mountains, and there really is nothing better than sitting around a campfire with my family.
Ashley Royer: I would much rather go to the beach. I am not an outdoor person at all, so I will never go camping. I rarely go to the beach! I am happy to stay inside or be outside in my pool.
Evangeline Denmark: I’m an Indoor Girl who somehow ended up in a very outdoorsy state. It seems like everyone in Colorado camps, hikes, and skis. I like to read in a cabin. If it’s not too cold or windy, then I might get adventurous and read outside. I’m not really in to beaches either, but I do find sitting by a large body of water peaceful.
Heather Maclean: Believe it or not, my maiden name is “Beach” and I hate the sand! I’m a mountain girl. Mountain lake is my preference. I love camping, but clamping is better!
McCall Hoyle: Definitely the beach. I had a really bad camping experience several years ago that will make a very funny scene in a book someday once I’ve recovered from the horror of the Pine beetles and the flooded tent. But I’ll take sand between my toes and the sound of the tide rolling in any day.
Stephanie Morrill: I love different things about both, actually. Camping provides a great opportunity to unplug, since we typically camp in national parks and have no cell service. I love that. The beach usually means more reading time, though, since I can hang out on a beach towel while my kids build sand castles. I’m not sure I can choose!
What do you hope to achieve in the next few months of this year?
Alison Gervais: In the next few months, I’m hoping to have a great end to my college education. College has been my life for the past four years, so there’s going to be an adjustment period moving into the “adult” world. And then IN 27 DAYS is set to be released this July, and of course I am so unbelievably excited about that I can’t even stand it. I hope every reader enjoys picking up a copy and that they find something they relate to or find some meaning in the story. That would be the greatest honor of all, really!
Ashley Royer: I hope to prepare for college and graduate in the top 15 of my class. Our rankings are a secret right now, and the last I heard, I was ranked 11 out of 425 students.
Evangeline Denmark: I hope to revise my YA project and send it to a few beta readers.
Heather Maclean: Getting the sequel to “Toward a Secret Sky” finished! Maren and Gavin are begging me to finish their odyssey!
McCall Hoyle: I have a new book that I’m working on and super excited about. I hope to finish it soon and then celebrate with a trip to the Outer Banks of North Carolina where the story takes place.
Stephanie Morrill: My kids will be out of school soon, so I’m trying to make good progress on the book I’m writing. Once they’re home, my writing time gets a bit more complicated.
I’m also teaching several classes at a writing workshop for teens, so I need to figure out my topics and start putting an outline together.
